Free Lesson Friday Distinct, Disciplined Blues Rhythm

Jun 3rd, 2022

What separates a memorable blues song from a forgettable one? One thing I've noticed is that memorable blues songs had a distinct rhythm, and the guitarist is disciplined in sticking to that rhythm for the entire song without straying too much out of boredom. This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way after realizing that I didn't really enjoy listening to my own performances because all of our songs started to sound the same. In this lesson I'll talk about what makes a rhythm distinct and why it is so important to be disciplined and stick to that rhythm in order to preserve the "distinct" nature of the song.

  • Some of the most valuable advice I’ve heard in my 60 years on the bandstand. Well done, my friend.

  • I totally agree with your comments in this lesson.A lot of “blues “ bands make this mistake. Incidentally I have had the Anson Funderburgh c.d in my collection for many years and love it.
