In this lesson, I explain that the cool sound of "La Grange" by ZZ Top comes from playing on the "off" beat for the first few hits, then switching to the "on" beta for the follow-up chords. I'll demonstrate how it would sound if we used only the off beat or only the on beat for the whole rhythm, and you'll gain a new appreciation for how switching between them gives this song such a powerful groove. (In the video I'm using the term backbeat incorrectly, sorry for the confusion)
