Too many 12-bar blues songs can make your set (or album) sound repetitive. Ballads allow you to connect with people who might not normally listen. Learning to play ballads well will help your playing become more dynamic and expressive, and provide some much-needed contrast in your sound, without straying too far outside the blues.
