One of my favorite slow blues sounds is created by walking up to and stopping on the 3rd of a 7th chord triad. These triangle-shaped triads are used all the time in blues, but if you walk up to the middle note and stop there, it creates a very cool "leading" sound that fits perfectly in a laid-back, slow blues song.
