I always encourage people to learn how to mix major and minor notes while playing blues, but when you first try to do this, it's easy to sound like you're just playing the major pentatonic scale because it's unfamiliar. Here's a simple example of how you can use the major pentatonic notes around Box 1, and by leaving out a single note, make it sound more like music and less like a scale.
