In 1970, a young Eric Clapton got the chance to sit in with Howlin' Wolf (and Hubert Sumlin) during a recording session in London. That session became an album titled "The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions". The first track, Rockin' Daddy, is an upbeat number in the same vein as Killing Floor and Shake For Me. During the solo, Clapton played a long, descending lick that gave me chills the first time I heard it, and it has haunted me ever since.
For 30 years, I have tried and failed to play this lick. Even after I figured out the right notes, I couldn't figure out a way to play them as fast as Clapton did.
But this week, I tried a slightly different approach, and before I knew it, the notes were flowing faster than ever. In this lesson, I'll show you how to play this amazing lick, and share the secret technique I was missing until now.
