How To Learn SRV Solos The Hard Way (For Free)

Oct 19th, 2025

We've reached the final video of the "SRV Sky Is Crying Blueprint" series. So far, we've looked at the history of the song in Video 1, the importance of SRV's "less is more" approach in Video 2, and a lot of practical tips to capture his magic in your own playing in Video 3.

Now, we're getting down to brass tacks, the fundamental thing you need to be able to do to play like Stevie Ray Vaughan: learn his licks and solos.

I've outlined how my journey began when I heard "The Sky Is Crying" for the first time, and how I reached my first destination when I got called up on stage to play it for the first time.

I was able to enjoy that experience because I had been on a journey. What happened along that journey wasn’t glamorous. It was hundreds of hours of hard work, studying SRV songs, and learning licks the hard way.

Today, I'm going to show you what I had to go through in order to be prepared for that moment. I'll show you the tedious way that I learned hundreds of licks across dozens of solos.

The good news is this: you don't have to learn this way.. I'll tell you why in my next video, so stay tuned.
